Lee Ann Newman, DVM
As a college student, she earned a degree in journalism. However, it didn’t take her long to revisit her childhood dreams and change career paths. “I love animals and I love problem solving. For me, that equals veterinarian. I used to help my dad fix cars and airplanes, and now I get to do the same kind of ‘fix-it’ work, but with animals.”
Back to All Vets
Dr. Newman has a poodle named Poppy (pictured) and a Domestic Short Hair cat named Libby, a former stray that the couple adopted while living in Germany, where Dr. Newman’s husband was stationed.

Why did you become a vet?
I love problem solving and animals; this job combines both of those things.
What do you enjoy about your job?
No two days are exactly alike. It’s impossible to get bored in this career. Every day I get to hang out with pets and help them feel better and be more healthy.
DVM from University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine
What do you love most about living in Memphis?
The Memphis Zoo is one of the most amazing things about the area. There is also so much to do and see here, from hiking in the woods to shows at the Orpheum.
What secret talent do you wish that you had?
I wish I could magically transport myself anywhere at any time. How much travel time would I save?!?!
