In high school I had an AP biology teacher that literally changed my life by getting me excited about science. I had just started volunteering at the Humane Society walking dogs, and the idea of being a vet struck me: here was a job that would allow me to study so many different fields such as physiology, pharmacology, behavior, etc. while also working with animals. Since that epiphany I never considered any other career.
So many things. Having such an active role in the community is an honor; I feel so lucky to live and work in this unique place. To me, being a vet means helping people just as much as it means advocating for animals. I love the culture of collaboration between vets and the amazing people I have met because of this field. As a general practitioner, I get to be a “jack of all trades” doing surgery as well as talking to people about everything from dental health to new puppies. I am never bored, and I love that being a veterinarian means being a lifelong learner.

Memphis is a city with character. I love the diversity and the pride people have for our home. I love running through Overton Park, going to Memphis Grizzlies games, getting from East Memphis to midtown via Greenline, being neighbors with St. Jude, drinking great local beer, and asking fellow Memphians, “where did you go to high school?” The excellent food goes without saying.
