Amy Kimble, DVM

“It is so rewarding to be there for that first puppy visit and then to be able to be there for the pet and family throughout the rest of their life. It is so special to have someone trust you with the care of their family member like that.”

Why did you become a vet?

I have wanted to be a vet for as long as I can remember. I always had pets growing up, and my parents rehabilitated squirrels. I was raised with a deep love and appreciation for animals, but I knew for sure that I wanted to be a vet after my hometown vet came out to my house and took care of my horse. I was so happy that my horse felt better, and I wanted to be able to do that for someone one day.

What do you enjoy about your job?

What I enjoy most about my job is getting to know my patients and their families. I have either volunteered or worked at a veterinary clinic since I was in high school, and I love the relationships that you get to build with people and their pets over the years. It is so rewarding to be there for that first puppy visit and then to be able to be there for the pet and family throughout the rest of their life. It is so special to have someone trust you with the care of their family member like that.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Microbiology from Mississippi State University

What do you love most about living in Memphis?

I really love that Memphis has Shelby Farms. I come from a pretty small town so there is nothing like that anywhere nearby. It is so nice to be able to be enjoy nature even though you are in the city.

What secret talent do you wish that you had?

I wish that I could play the violin or the banjo. They seem like really fun instruments to know how to play.
