Why did you become a vet?

Growing up with dogs, cats, and horses, I always knew I was meant to be an animal caretaker. I haven’t ever imagined myself in any other profession. My journey to becoming a vet started when I was a young teenager. Our family dog became sick with an autoimmune disease, and he declined very quickly. The vet that cared for him educated us, was open to our financial concerns, and offered several treatment options. Although we chose humane euthanasia due to his grave prognosis and financial constraints that would come from treating this life-long disease, we felt confident in our decision because of the high-quality care shown by that vet. I knew from that point on that I wanted to provide the same care and to be a voice for both owners and their pets while offering compassion, empathy, and education.

What do you enjoy about your job?

Veterinary medicine offers many enjoyments, but what I enjoy the most about my job is forming relationships with pets and their owners that last from puppyhood, to end-of-life, and even beyond. Pets often become our family members, so it is a great honor to be trusted with the care of them. Getting to help people navigate pet ownership and to provide education in a way that makes owners feel more confident in their decisions is very rewarding.
