Why did you become a vet?

As cliché as it sounds, I realized I wanted to be a veterinarian at a very young age. As the middle child, I always found myself to be shy compared to my siblings and making friends when I first started school was not easy. Anytime I was invited to a birthday party, I would always find myself playing with my peers’ pets rather than with my peers themselves. An unspoken connection and understanding between myself and these household critters was palpable. During my 5th birthday and after begging my parents for a fluffy companion for a year, Rocky, a Yorkie, was gifted to me. Soon after Rocky came into my life, his veterinary visits started and so did my passion for helping sick animals. I recall always being thrilled to go for veterinary visits and asking our family veterinarian a million questions about what all he was doing to Rocky and what everything meant. My curiosity translated into the classroom as I began taking and excelling in science classes, most specifically biology and chemistry classes. Suddenly, all of the puzzle pieces fell together, confirming veterinary medicine was the path that I would pursue.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I enjoy strengthening the human-animal bond by educating pet parents, relieving the suffering of those who cannot advocate for themselves, forming close relationships with my work family, patients and clients, and of course puppy breath.

What do you love most about living in Memphis?

Although I have lived in Memphis for a very short time, I am looking forward to falling in love with it. I am excited to explore its culture to the fullest and experience everything it has to offer. From its people to its food, music, sports, history, museums, and nature, I cannot wait to get to know everything about the place I now get to call home. Feel free to give me suggestions on “must do/see things in Memphis”. All ideas are welcome!

What secret talent do you wish that you had?

I wish I could talk with animals! It would make my work a tad easier and life more entertaining. Imagine actually knowing what your cat thinks about your dinner date outfit or where your ferret placed your keys!
