Why did you become a vet?

Since I was a little boy, I’ve always known I wanted to be a veterinarian. Even before I remember, my parents always said that’s what I would tell people I was going to be when I grew up. As I got older this never changed and my dream to help pets and their owners just grew stronger. I believe veterinarians are the voice for all pets. Our patients speak in a different language and I feel blessed that I am able to listen and see things in a different way, which in turn allows me to treat my patients better.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I enjoy the everyday challenges that occur in daily practice. Being able to help treat my patients (the pets) and at the same time help my clients (the owners) through a very difficult time is truly rewarding. It is awesome to see how veterinary medicine has changed and continues to change, which allows me to diagnose and treat my patients with more advanced and more effective treatment options. Seeing my patient through a difficult time and reuniting them with their owner is an amazing and heart-warming feeling. After practicing as a vet in Bartlett for many years, I’m now practicing in Lakeland with The Pet Hospitals.

Education

I received my B.S. degree in Zoology from Arkansas State University in 1993. I then received my DVM from LSU in 1998. I did a 12-week preceptorship in Baton Rouge, LA before taking my first job in Jonesboro, Arkansas. After 2 years there, I came to Memphis and have been here ever since.

What do you love most about living in Memphis?

I love that Memphis is a central area for multiple activities such as triathlons, running events, and other cultural and fine arts events, not to mention some fabulous restaurants. Shelby Farms and Shelby Forest are amazing places that allow you to get away from the city without going very far.

What secret talent do you wish that you had?

I wish I could play the piano and the guitar. It would be fun just to start playing while out somewhere and surprise people.
