Why did you become a vet?

I grew up on a small family farm with every pet you can think of. I always remember being underfoot whenever my mom was in the barn, the veterinarian came to the house, or we went to the veterinary clinic. I have always been so intrigued by the medicine and the ability the veterinarians had to fix my pets in times of need. I have wanted to “grow up to be a veterinarian” as long as I can remember! When it came down to filling out vet school applications, my drive was that I wanted to be able to answer the owners questions and be able to give them the “why” and “how” behind what was going on with their beloved fur-babies.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I love the daily challenges I am faced with. There is always a new problem that I have never seen before that I get to research and learn about. The learning is constant and the veterinary field is always growing.

Education

I graduated from veterinary school at St George’s University in Grenada in the West Indies. It was an amazing experience! My fourth year of veterinary school was completed at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. I graduated in 2016. After graduation I did a one year internship in Charlotte, NC. Since then I have been working in the Memphis area in emergency medicine.

What do you love most about living in Memphis?

I love the sense of community here! Everywhere you go people are friendly and welcoming. There is always someone around who “grew up down the road” and can give you recommendations for anything you need!

What secret talent do you wish that you had?

I really wish I was fluent in American Sign Language! I have taken a couple classes and absolutely love it but I haven’t kept up. I keep saying I will get back to it and I just need to make myself do it!
